Paralegal Courses

This course provides an introductory overview of criminal law and its application within the legal system of Belize. It is designed to equip paralegal students with foundational knowledge of criminal liability, criminal offences, and court procedures, as well as the practical role of the paralegal in criminal matters.

Students will examine the basic principles of criminal law, including the elements of a crime (actus reus and mens rea), classifications of offences, and available defenses. The course also explores the structure of the criminal justice system in Belize, the roles of law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and the courts.

By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in criminal law concepts and procedures, preparing them for entry-level paralegal work or further studies in law and criminal justice.

Civil Procedure and practice is a branch of procedural law and refers to the prescribed rules of legal formalities that are to be followed in a civil action. The Course requires learning the procedures in civil practice and practice drafting court documents. It provides foundation knowledge and skill of the operation of the High Court System and how civil proceedings are brought, what documents are drafted and how they are drafted
