EN 209, a prerequisite course for EN 210, is a general core English course which is mandatory for all students enrolled in an Associate Degree at Corozal Junior College. This course targets the wider framework of communication principles, systems, forms and processes for an elementary school setting. It emphasizes on the teacher as an effective communicator, competent in language with the ability to promote effective communication skills. It focuses specifically on effective communication skills with an emphasis on the linguistic complexity of differences in Standard English, non-standard English and Creole to improve the Standard English competency skills of student-teachers in an effort to create understanding and improve the interpersonal relationships of teachers, students and administration in the elementary school context. In addition, it also addresses the effects of cultural language in the acquisition of Standard English.
