A laboratory course covering the sources, reactions, transportation, effects, and fates of chemical species in water, soil, and air environments. Laboratory experiments will analyze pollutants and elucidate fundamental principles of chemical equilibrium and kinetics applicable to the environment. Simple laboratory tests for the presence of nitrate (NO3 -), phosphate (PO43-), lead (II) (Pb2+), cyanide (CN -), and chloride (Cl -) ions will be carried out. Other tests for the identification of cations and anions will also be carried out.
